A driver mate assists the driver throughout the route: helping load and unload, carrying out two-person handling, supporting access at delivery points, completing paperwork and handling returns or empties. The role keeps routes on schedule and reduces the physical demand on drivers.
Driver mates are not required to drive the vehicle, so a vocational licence is not normally needed. Where a client asks for licence-holding support or specific certificates, those requirements are confirmed and checked before allocation.
Weekend and evening delivery routes are supported where that is when the operation runs. Patterns are agreed in advance so the same workers can be allocated consistently to the same routes wherever possible.
Right to work and identity checks are completed for every worker, and any additional client-specific checks for customer-facing or in-home delivery work are agreed and completed before the worker attends.
Yes, additional driver mate cover during peak trading is planned from forecast route volumes, with agreed ramp-up dates so the same standard of briefing is maintained as numbers grow.
